Of the usual 21 pages, we only get the Outsiders in a quarter of them. The issue this time around, however, is the fact that the team itself gets put in the back seat. Despite headlining this story, the Dark Knight continues to stay in the background, letting the B-list characters do the work. In the last issue, I had a problem with the fact that Batman had taken a back seat. Kaliber leaps in to protect her, as well as the Outsiders. As she is about to turn the high tech weapon against herself, Ishmael arrives to take her. She asks Kaliber to give a gun to her to defend herself. Meanwhile, Kaliber tries to explain the situation to Sofia, but she isn’t on board. Black Lightning, despite his curiosity of the cyborg protecting her, agrees to take the team to help. Sofia has been picked up by another of Batman’s associates, Kaliber, and is on the run from a man called Ishmael. We open with Bruce talking to Black Lightning about the girl they need to help. Will this mistrust be put aside to save an innocent? While the team does agree to help, Black Lightning begins to wonder what other secrets does the Dark Knight has hidden from them. The reason he knows about this is that Bruce saved her and took her to safety. The girl, Sofia, was a part of a metahuman creation program and someone wants her for themselves. Their first mission comes when a young girl and her father are attacked on the road. Together, they will work from the shadows to defend Gotham City. We have old favorites such as Katana and Black Lightning, making their return, as well as newcomers Signal and Orphan. Weird Science DC Comics Podcast Ep 321: DC Comics.Batman and The Outsiders race to Save a Metahuman!īatman and the Outsiders are back in the spotlight! Batman has reformed his team consisting of lesser-known street-level heroes.

I liked more than I didn't in this run, but this ended in a thud. There were too many unanswered questions going into this issue, and unfortunatley, they remain so. I am guessing Takara rushed a bit to get this done, but I don't know for sure.īatman and the Outsiders #17 ends Bryan Hill's run, and while he stays true to his character moments that defined the series, they fall flat here.

I usually like Marcio Takara's art, so I was surprised with how much I didn't like what we got here. I also wish that Dexter Soy could have finished up the series.
Batman and the outsiders series#
I liked this series enough, but Hill wasted a lot of time, and this forced ending shows that. They also feel too much "been there done that" as the same characters team-up and head off together. You can't flip that and make a profit!īryan Hill ends his series with the character moments that were a big part of the run, but they feel incomplete. even though it seems like she is right outside on the front lawn! I think Bruce is pissed off for wasting money on the horse farm. The big twist is that Sofia is going off with her, which causes Bruce to destroy some furniture and wonder where the girl has gone. She's only there to tell Bruce where everyone went, even though it's so ambiguous, I'm not sure she needed to stick around. What were Duke's shadow powers, and why are the fading away now? Wasn't Sofia supposed to get a new name and costume? Why is Bruce still letting Shiva hang out with him and the team?Īfter Bruce makes his rounds, he decides to have tea with Shiva, and I guess he isn't taking his iocane powder because he gets knocked out by it (since Alfred has died, Bruce has had issues with tea!), and when he wakes, everyone is gone but Shiva. This final issue seems to point out how little we know about the characters. We get Bruce's reactions to the team, mainly Jefferson and Sofia, but not much else. I like that Bryan Hill is aware of all of this, but throwing it out here to never get resolved (well, probably never) feels so odd. Katana wants to figure out her new power-set (which I bet most readers forgot about), Jefferson wants to figure out how much Ra's changed him, Duke is getting back to his light powers, and Sofia is more into revenge than playing My Litle Pony.
